The bathroom can be a sanctuary; a place where you can close the door and escape reality with a hot shower or bubble bath. But in the latest episode of HGTV’s “Help! I Wrecked My House,” one couple had a completely gutted bathroom that left them without either of those things (yes, no door)—and so design expert Jasmine Roth stepped in to assist.

When Jeremy and Andrea moved into a new home with their six-year-old daughter Kate in Anaheim, CA, they decided to take on a decent amount of home renovations. While they successfully executed some projects, the bathroom attached to their main bedroom didn’t go so smoothly—leaving the couple with a wrecked bathroom that wasn’t even close to being completed. Not to mention the massive black tarp that covered up the nonexistent door between the bedroom and the bathroom.

For the bedroom, the couple wanted to keep things minimal and have the bed as the only piece of large furniture in the space. To get rid of any dresser needs, Roth created two built-in closets by removing cabinet doors from the hallway, essentially flipping the storage from one room to another.

Roth painted the walls a deep gray at the risk of making the room too dark, but it gave the room the relaxing vibes she was hoping for. Additionally, Roth enhanced privacy by installing blackout curtains and a pine wood sliding door separating the bedroom for the bathroom.

Speaking of the bathroom, after Roth was done with it, this area went from unfinished to zen-filled. The designer brought in a spacious white vanity and mirrors with backlighting that popped against the new stained wood backdrop, creating a clean, calming aesthetic. The rest of the spa—I mean, er, bathroom—included a wet room area with a shower and freestanding tub.
