The travel pros at ParkSleepFly took to Tripadvisor to analyze the total number of tourist attractions in each U.S. state, then taking into account the number of attractions listed as ‘hidden gems.’ The end result: the top 10 states with the most hidden travel gems — many of which are sure to surprise even the most savviest of travelers out there.
Topping the list is Alaska, which is home to 2,823 total attractions, with 309 deemed as hidden gems, including the Mendenhall Glacier and Kodiak Island. Along with breathtaking landscapes filled with icy glaciers and fjords, this truly remote state is packed full of lesser-known places waiting to be discovered.
In second place, Wyoming features 1,486 total attractions with 114 hidden gems, especially for those adventurers who love the great outdoors. Some top picks include Devils Tower and the Midway Geyser Basin.
Taking third place is Utah, with 3,108 attractions and 217 hidden gems thanks to the state’s trio of distinct geographical regions and rich history. Some under-the-radar destinations include Capitol Reef National Park, Kanarraville Falls, and Fifth Water Hot Springs.
Rounding out the list in order is Hawaii, Maine, South Dakota, New Mexico, Tennessee, South Carolina, and Idaho, all of which feature thousands of can’t-miss attractions ready to be explored.
