Many people have a love-hate relationship with our TVs. They provide entertainment for hours on end, but when not in use, the big black rectangle on the wall is far from beautiful. One Instagram user found a way to disguise her television above the fireplace in her English country cottage, and it looks so good.

Interior decorator Leah Lane disguised her TV behind a pair of folding doors above her fireplace. The doors were added during the construction of a custom built-in that consists of a mantle and twin bookcases on either side of the fireplace, and the idea is simply genius.

“Hiding the TV has been one of my favorite projects in the house!” Lane captioned a January post.

Detailed further in an Instagram highlight, Lane showed how she opted for custom frames to be installed in the wood panelling so that the doors will fold away flush when opened. Brass toggles on the inside of the doors allow the frames to be accessed and the art to be changed out if Lane wants a refresh.

The doors were installed using piano hinges to keep all the components as flush to the walls and each other as possible. And inside the TV box are cubbies for a cable box, DVD player, and a shelf for the TV remotes. All the electrical outlets are also hidden in the cupboard behind a piece of MDF that’s painted to match the wall color.

Of course, this disguise takes a lot more work than some other options. But if you’re planning a living room remodel in the near future, this idea may just spark some inspiration.
