Katie and Cody have been a couple for over a decade, and they are the inspiring design duo behind popular interior IG account Highboy LA. They share peeks into how they’ve sustainably furnished their 750-square-foot apartment — which they’ve rented for eight years now — with stylish secondhand furniture.

“This apartment caught our attention because of the location. It’s in a very walkable neighborhood, which is rare for Los Angeles!” begins Katie, who explains they originally found the apartment for rent on Craigslist in 2015. “We’re so happy that the inside had a ton of vintage charm, too. The building is from 1929, so it was built right before the Great Depression. It has a lot of charm in the archways, built-ins, and stucco walls.”

Katie is a full-time content creator on Instagram and TikTok, and says they occasionally also source and sell vintage furniture in the local LA area. So of course, the home they share is filled with vintage delights.

“My personal style is comfortable, timeless, with a touch of trend and pop culture,” she begins. “My partner’s style definitely leans more vintage. I think the combination of the two really informs our interior design style! We love layering lots of texture and mixing different colors/wood tones. We gravitate toward vintage mid-century modern furniture due to their excellent design and how well they pair with nature, hence all the plants! And we love pops of bold color or graphic prints mixed with the ‘old’ furniture pieces.”
