My home is a four-bedroom semi-detached spread over three floors and within walking distance to our local park and high street. It’s a fairly new build so there were no major renovations needed when we bought it and it was more of a blank canvas just waiting for us to put our stamp on it!

Although initially I didn’t think it had much curb appeal (it had potential), as soon as I stepped inside the open-plan living space overlooking the garden I immediately changed my mind! The decor throughout the whole house was very bland and unappealing, but I knew each room had so much potential.

The layout is a little quirky, in that the ground floor is a bit back-to-front. When you go through the front door a small utility room/cloak room is immediately to your right and beside it is our downstairs toilet and then the stairs letting up to the first floor. In front of you is the glass through to the open-plan living area. Within the open-plan living area the kitchen is to the front of the house, with the living room in the middle, and then the dining area to the back overlooking the garden. This felt a little strange at first, but it is now one of the things that I would never want to change.

On the middle floor we have my three daughters’ bedrooms, as well as our main bathroom. The biggest of the three bedrooms also has an en suite, which with three girls was a huge appeal! Then the top floor comprises our main bedroom along with an en suite bathroom as well as a small store room, as we have no loft space. I loved the idea of having the top floor all to ourselves!

I live here with my husband, Mark; my three teenage daughters, Amy, Zara, and Madison; and my chihuahua, Milo, who likes to pop up on my grid from time to time. My eldest daughter, Amy, recently left to go to ballet school so she is only home on school holidays, so I recently took the opportunity to give her bedroom and en suite a complete revamp. I home educate my other two girls, which keeps me busy, and in my spare time I can usually be found in the midst of a decorating project or upcycling some furniture!

Apartment Therapy Survey

My style: I always find this a tricky question to answer, but I love color and I love how different colors work together and also how color makes you feel! I like to think my interior style is fun and uplifting, but also a space that inspires creativity and expression. The colors I use in my bedrooms are softer, more calming tones than what I use in my downstairs where I have added brighter reds, greens, and mustards to create a space that has more energy.

Inspiration: I feel inspired by the colors around me, whether they come from a pattern on a piece of clothing or a beautiful garden full of flowers or even just two random items sitting side by side that catch my eye because I like how the colors work together.

Favorite element: My favorite thing about my home has got to be the open-plan living space and how it opens out to the garden — particularly in the summer months!
