Clare O'Connell UK House Tour - Bedroom

When I lived in Missouri, I was jealous of people who lived in big cities because they had easy access to all of the home and furniture lines from places like Anthropologie and H&M in person. Meanwhile, I had to drive two hours to a bigger store because my local stores only carried clothing. But now that I live in New York City, everything I could possibly want to look at is usually only a train ride away.

Recently I visited the H&M store in Midtown Manhattan because it has an entire floor just for their home collection. Even though there are thousands of H&Ms around the world, only 33 have their home goods in stores, so I was excited to see them IRL. I saw tons of ultra-cute spring decor, and I was surprised by just how many of the soft goods I liked — I’m talking bedding, curtains, tableware, bath linens, and more. Everything comes in springtime colors and patterns, and I can’t wait to show you all of my faves. Plus, all of the items I liked ranged from $20 to $120, so everything is pretty affordable, too!

I only saw one rug in the store, but I instantly liked its soft green-and-beige color scheme. The tasseled ends were a bit stiff, so they might need some initial combing through or even a pass with your iron, but the rug is still an easy way to add some vintage-inspired charm. The rug is made of 100% recycled cotton and has a flatwoven construction that feels like it’ll hold up well to everyday use.

I also liked H&M’s blackout curtains. The regular curtains felt kind of thin and not super substantial, but these were nice and heavy and had an opaque lining that you’d want for a blackout set. I also liked these curtains’ woven texture and the fact that they seem like they’d be easy to style. The set is made of recycled polyester.

Bedding

I love a pretty duvet set, and H&M did not disappoint in this category, either. This muslin set had a super-soft gauzy texture, which has been trendy for the past few years. It’s selling fast but still currently available online in a range of soft colors, like sage green and pigeon blue. I love that it’s made of cotton, too.

On the shelf above the muslin set was this washed cotton set, which is nice if you like your bedding to have a lived-in feel. It has an almost fuzzy texture and comes in similar colors to the other duvet sets, including an oatmeal hue, a rust color, and a sage green. The set felt strong when I pulled it taut, too.

I also loved this adorable gingham duvet set, which is also 100% cotton. I want every color, as I think the set is just darling for spring and summer. It had a nice, crisp texture when I touched it, so I imagine it would feel cool and breathable to sleep under. Select colors appear to be selling fast, so don’t wait to snag your favorite.

Placemats

I saw two sets of placemats that look very current. The first one was a ruffly-edged set that I unfortunately can’t find online, but the second set I viewed is available on H&M’s website in a summery pink-and-orange colorway. It has a scalloped border, so it’s trendy, and each mat is also water-repellent. These would be so fun to use both indoors and outdoors; grab a set or two now to upgrade your next patio soirée. At $20, the mats are also a steal.

Shower Curtains

The fact that these shower curtains come in matching little baggies is so cute to me for some reason. Now’s the perfect time to shop them, anyway, because shower curtains tend to get extra moldy and gross during the warmer months. If my own bathroom didn’t have a glass door, I would honestly get both this seersucker curtain and this floral print. That way, I would be set with a clean, mold-free shower curtain through fall.

I wasn’t in love with H&M’s other bath linens; the towels and bath mats felt a little thin and rough to me, but the shower curtains are a 10 out of 10 in my book.

It’s definitely worth looking around the house and seeing what could use a swap — and consider my H&M recommendations a source of inspo for your next redecorating project. They won’t cost you a fortune, and they’ll give your surroundings an instant visual boost that’s fitting for both this season and the next.
