This NYC Home Has a Viral $300 Credenza, a King-Size Canopy Bed, and a Never-Used Kitchen
Deciding to move back to New York on a whim, Hollis Loudon Puig, founder of Hollis Loudon Interiors, put a deposit on this 606-square-foot rental apartment while traveling for work in North Carolina. “I didn’t step foot in it until the day I got the keys, and somehow it was perfect. The whole thing felt like all the stars aligned,” she writes.

Hollis moved in to the unit in August 2024 and reports that it was a “clean white canvas, beautiful in its simplicity, and ready for a personality to be layered in.” The finishes of the space were already modern and updated, and the unit also came with a washer and dryer, garbage disposal, gas range, and Bosch dishwasher.” And, of course, there were the views from her window of the Brooklyn Bridge Hollis describes as “nothing short of amazing.”
While it was a great blank space to start with, it was still blank, and Hollis, a designer known for her bold and fearless interiors, wanted to add personality to the space. “Honestly, it was easier than I thought, but only because I moved in with absolutely nothing. I am talking no mattress, no sofa, not even a sad folding chair. Just clothes,” she explains.
“That said, shopping was still a little stressful since I needed pieces that were both affordable and actually in stock, which post-COVID supply chain issues and tariffs made feel like a treasure hunt.”
After designing the space, Hollis describes it as eclectic and fun. “It feels like me now, a mix of traditional and contemporary with plenty of layering and the kind of high-low balance that makes a home interesting,” she writes.
“One moment you are looking at an antique side table and the next you are spotting something from Wayfair that somehow looks right at home next to it. The view of the bridge and the water is still the crown jewel, but now it is framed by color, art, and pattern that make the whole space come alive.”
