The Home Depot “Mini” Halloween Gem That Is “Sure to Sell Out” (Hint: It’s Not Skelly)
Since its eerie invention in 2020, it seems like all other Halloween decor has lived in the shadow of The Home Depot’s Skelly — quite literally, given that the 12-foot, nearly 60-pound skeleton is about as tall as a one-story house. A bestseller every year, it’s no surprise that this colossal piece of decor has created a little world of its own, one where skeletons double as Christmas and Valentine’s Day decorations (to skirt HOA rules), and 170-gallon storage crates are marketed as big enough to store Skelly’s giant bones in the offseason.
The thing is, in their tunnel vision to obtain Skelly, many Home Depot shoppers are overlooking some of the other Halloween decorations that might be slightly more under-the-radar but just as spooky. To get an insider take on what the new “it” Halloween decor is for 2025, I asked Home Depot’s holiday decorations merchant, Aubrey Horowitz. Here’s everything you need to know.
Will Home Depot Have the 12-Foot Skeleton in 2025?
You bet your bottom dollar. Horowitz confirms that the classic 12-foot skeleton will be sold again in stores and online this year, and the price will be $299, as it has been since its 2020 launch. However, there’s also a new version of Skelly. While last year’s upgrade was a Servo Skelly with head movements and light-up eyes, this year’s innovation is Ultra Skelly: a 6.5-foot skeleton with Bluetooth connection that lets you control how it moves, looks (there are 18 different eye settings), lights up, and talks (it can say up to five preset recordings, or you can speak through it in real time for up to 30 seconds).
What is the “It” decor for 2025?
Though Horowitz predicts Skelly will be a hot-ticket item, as it has sold out every year so far, there’s a newcomer she expects to fly off shelves: the 3.5-foot Animated LED Scarred Chucky Doll and the 3.5 ft. Animated Tiffany Valentine Doll. “Last year we brought more of a sweet Chucky, and he sold out incredibly fast. We had so much positive reception for him that this year we brought a new Chucky, so this one is Scarred Chucky, the version from Bride of Chucky. And, of course, we had to bring his bride Tiffany Valentine,” Horowitz says. “So those two are sure to sell out fast.”
She explains that The Home Depot looks to social media pages each season to see how customers are reacting to their holiday collections and retrofitting their Halloween decor, and they often see people DIYing them to make them look even scarier.
“Our superfans have spoken, and they have said we want a scarier version [of Chucky]. So I think [Scarred Chucky] is going to be a huge hit this year.” And, though they’re larger than your average doll, given that Chucky and Tiffany are “miniatures” at only 3.5 feet tall (compared with the giant lawn decor), they’re especially great for small yards or stoops.
Personally, I will be admiring the homes featuring Scarred Chucky and his possessed bride from afar (not sure what, I just find something totally terrifying about killer dolls!). I do wish them a lifetime of happiness, though, as a longtime Halloween lover I can’t wait to see how people decorate.
