Howie has rented this three-bedroom apartment in Hong Kong for one-and-a-half years: I live in a duplex sea-front apartment, where bohemian, eclectic, and cozy styles intertwine to create a truly magical space. With my faithful companion Max (an old English sheepdog) by my side, this home becomes a haven of warmth, creativity, and companionship.

The ground floor comprises of the living and dining area as well as a separate kitchen. As you enter the apartment, a sense of free-spirited adventure fills the air. The open layout seamlessly connects the living areas, allowing a flow of energy and creativity throughout. The walls are adorned with vibrant tapestries, eclectic artwork, and framed photographs that tell stories of your journeys, evoking a sense of wanderlust and adding a burst of color to the space.

Large windows welcome the coastal sunlight, casting a warm and inviting glow on the natural elements within. The breathtaking view of the sea stretches out before you, inviting you to embrace the serenity and tranquility of the ocean.

Soft, plush rugs cover the floors, offering a luxurious and comfortable foundation for every step. Vintage and bohemian-inspired furniture pieces are thoughtfully arranged, featuring a mix of textures, patterns, and vibrant upholstery.

Indoor plants, such as cascading ivy and potted palms, breathe life into the space, infusing it with a touch of nature and lending an air of tranquility. These living elements harmonize with the eclectic decor, creating a balanced and inviting atmosphere.

The bedrooms and bathrooms are situated upstairs, accessible by an indoor staircase. One of the guest bedrooms doubles up as a home office. Each of the bedrooms have their own sea-front balcony, which offers breathtaking views of the ocean. It’s the ideal spot to savor morning coffee, watch the sunset, or engage in heartfelt conversations.

My home — a blend of bohemian, eclectic, and cozy styles, is a testament to my adventurous spirit and love for artistic expression. It’s a sanctuary where Max and I share countless joyful moments, finding solace, inspiration, and pure companionship in each other’s presence.

Describe your home’s style in five words or fewer: Lively, vibrant, whimsical, diverse, expressive.

What is your favorite room and why? I would say my living room because the space is designed to maximize my connection with the coastal beauty, creating a serene and awe-inspiring atmosphere.

The large floor-to-ceiling windows span across one entire wall, offering an uninterrupted panorama of the sparkling sea. The glass seamlessly merges the indoors with the outdoors, blurring the boundary between my living room and the natural wonders beyond. The expansive views become a living artwork, changing with the shifting tides and bathing the room in a serene, ethereal light.

The living room is designed to complement and enhance the beauty of the sea views. The color palette is inspired by nature, with soft, neutral tones that reflect the ocean hues and create a tranquil ambiance. White-colored walls provide a backdrop that allows the sea to take center stage, while also giving the room an airy and spacious feel.

Comfortable seating is strategically arranged to optimize the views. Plush sofas are positioned to face the windows, inviting you to relax and immerse yourself in the breathtaking scenery. The furniture is chosen for both style and comfort, with soft upholstery and cozy cushions that encourage you to sink in and unwind.

The living room layout is designed to encourage interaction and appreciation of the views. During the evenings, as the sun sets over the horizon, the living room becomes a cozy retreat. Soft lighting fixtures, such as warm-hued lamps, create a soothing and intimate atmosphere, allowing you to enjoy the sea views even after the daylight fades.

It’s a space where I can relax, find inspiration, and be continuously reminded of the awe-inspiring power of the sea.

Any advice for creating a home you love? It’s important to create a home that reflects your personality — focus on incorporating elements that resonate with you. Choose decor and furnishings that align with your style preferences, select colors that evoke the desired mood, display personal items and artwork that hold meaning to you, incorporate elements from nature, utilize lighting to create ambiance, and prioritize comfort and functionality in your design choices. By infusing your space with your unique taste and personality, you’ll create a home that feels truly authentic and welcoming.
