Name: Steph and Matt
Location: We’re constantly on the move: currently in Portugal then heading to Morocco!
Size: 140 square feet
Years Lived In: 3 years, owned

Stephanie and Matt live a pretty slow and steady life…but one that’s also full of adventure, travels and creativity! They’re the duo behind Slow ‘n Steady Living, and they’ve shared this beautiful boho van home for the past three years. Originally from Cornwall, UK, they’ve taken their van to see stunning sights in places like Spain, Morocco and Portugal.

“Our motorhome, Ivy, is a duck egg blue Iveco Daily 1996 with an extended back. She’s a little rough around the edges but we like her that way; she definitely has personality (bumps and scrapes galore) and you can tell she’s a well-used adventure wagon!” describes Matt. “She was already mostly ‘fitted out’ when we bought her but we made quite a few modifications and personalised her to fit our needs; we did lots of DIY’s to make her our own. Steph had a vision for how she wanted it to look aesthetically and we tried to make those ideas come to life. We would say she’s a cozy bohemian surf shack all wrapped up into one!”

Woven baskets, decorative boxes and colorful textiles add texture and style to the space, and are great for staying organized (particularly when on the move in a small space). And though there’s only 140 square feet to move around in, they’ve got all the important spaces one needs: space to sleep, cook, work, and even bathe.

“When we’re not surfing or on a beach expedition we spend most of our time reading, working on creative projects and relaxing in our rolling home. Steph uses it as a moving studio as well as a living space; she is a collage artist and illustrator so having space to be creative is super important!”

If you want to see more of their home on wheels or adventures, I highly recommend visiting their website. It’s covered in envious travel photos and will make you want to take a trip! And if you want to know more about how they are able to live this kind of lifestyle, check out their blog, where they post info on what they do for work and more. They’ve also got an Etsy store where you can buy some of their travel finds.

Apartment Therapy Survey:

Our Style: Bohemia

Inspiration: I (Steph) always dreamt of living in a motorhome and being able to change address at the turn of a key. I read a book when I was younger called “Rolling homes and handmade houses” and couldn’t shake the need to live on wheels! I have always had a thing for boho homewares, art and pattern, which is pretty evident in our decor.

Favorite Element: The living room area because it’s so versatile, it can be two sofas, a double bed and a dining room!

Biggest Challenge: Storage — we live in Ivy full time so finding space for everything can be tricky! (Especially Matt’s surfboards and Steph’s excessive hat collection). We have under sofa storage which is excellent for hiding clutter.

Proudest DIY: Lowering our bed down from the ceiling! When we first got Ivy, the bed was a lot higher and when we lowered it the whole space totally opened up. We can now use it as a daybed and chill out area for reading, drawing and watching movies.

Biggest Indulgence: Our memory foam mattress topper. (Heavenly after a day of adventures!)

Best Advice: Mirrors can really open up a space, especially if it’s small.
