Apartment Therapy Survey:

Our Style: Belongings with a soul and a story.

Inspiration: When we were first dating, we went to a party at 632 on Hudson and have talked about it ever since. Add to that a little Royal Tenenbaum vibe, The Selby, and ’80s street art.

Favorite Element: We have the best neighbors on the planet, who let their children run free with ours up and down the block every afternoon and all weekend. Favorite non-human element: the wood paneling in the dining room.

Biggest Challenge: The thousands of tiny nails in the wood floors are always working their way up. We have hammers on both levels of the house…

What Friends Say: “Was that always there? Is that new?” Our home is always in flux, with Andre’s never-ending search for treasures on the road and fits of rearranging.

Biggest Embarrassment: You’ll notice that we didn’t open a single drawer or closet on the tour. Or the shower curtain.

Proudest DIY: Andre found a pair of speakers on the street in Brooklyn and discovered that with a little wiring work, they sound fantastic.

Biggest Indulgence: Lilies in the entryway say good morning when we come downstairs, welcome us home, and keep us company while we sort the mail or weed the field of tiny shoes. They just make a corner of our life a little more beautiful.

Best Advice: Invite people over! Sometimes seeing your place thorough new eyes gives you a little nudge to make things happen. We find that we complete those projects we’ve put off, declutter, and add fun elements that we’ll enjoy even after the guests leave.

Dream Sources: We’re looking forward to some international adventures as a family. Maybe a little shopping in Morocco or Turkey?

Thanks, Andre and Phoebe!
