If Alice (of Wonderland) had a house in the 21st century, this is what it would look like. With each room drenched in bright colors and bold patterns, you can’t help but feel happy walking around this home. Shauna and Jeff have picked up items from their travels around the world, adding statement pieces to each room to give them character.
Shauna doesn’t play by any design rules. “I don’t know the rules of home design. I haven’t downloaded any How-To books or read Interior Design For Dummies. I just play with color and pattern and different textures and see how it makes the space feel. That’s it. That’s my secret,” she writes on her website.
It’s a design philosophy that has led to a home bursting with bright colors, mixed patterns and lots of quirky touches.
Apartment Therapy Survey:
Our Style: Eclectic
Inspiration: Jonathan Adler meets Justina Blakeney
Favorite Element: The neutral backdrop gives permission to do anything
Biggest Challenge: Mixing our two different design styles (my husband’s with mine), although I mostly win out.
What friends say: They love all the color and pattern. There is so much going on without being too overwhelming or busy.
Biggest Embarrassment: There are no outlets in the laundry room! How did we miss that when we were designing the house?
Proudest DIY: The touches of original artwork done by yours truly and our kids.
Biggest Indulgence: The drapery fabric and wallpaper
Best Advice: Throw out the rule book. Design the way you feel.
Dream Sources: Jonathan Adler, Anthropologie, Lumens, Design Within Reach
