Nicole, her husband Dan and their two kids moved into their Park Slope brownstone just over a year ago. After a dramatic (and much debated) paint job and face lift, this four-story home is now one everyone slows down to admire.

Nicole and Dan chose architects Wendy Cronk and Erin Cowhey Design and contractors Versatile Renovations NYC to help with the renovations. There were many design choices that had to be talked through — and compromised on! Having a dark office and guest room opposite the master, painting the front of the house all black, indulging in lots and lots of tiling, and painting their son’s room half black/half white. Originally, the son wanted all black walls, Nicole wanted all white, so they met halfway — literally!

Our Style: Melting pot of styles; boho/glam

Favorite Element: Staircase refurbishment

Biggest Challenge: Exterior of the house

Proudest DIY: Designing the built-in bar inside the living room soffit area.

Biggest Indulgence: Second floor bathroom and kitchen (amount of tiling and marble)

Best Advice: Pull as much reference for each room as you can. Stay organized. Edit the reference constantly until you are locked in on a look.
