Nestled along a popular creek that snakes its way through Minneapolis is a two-story stucco house that resembles many of the houses in this stucco-rich city. Once inside, however, you’re greeted with a colorful array of art, furniture and knick-knacks that just feels, well, cool.

Jessica, Adam, their daughter and cat live and play here. And over the last ten years they’ve really made it their own. They did so with the usual personal touches like wall paint color, furniture and decor, but also with some major improvement projects that brought the home to an all new level.

This house truly is an eclectic collage, with carefully chosen and significant items placed strategically; the walls are treated like an ever-changing canvas. Jessica and Adam’s home evolves beautifully along with them and grows as their family grows.

Apartment Therapy Survey:

Our Style: Eclectic Collage

Inspiration: “Bits & pieces put together to present a semblance of a whole” –Lawrence Weiner

Favorite Element: The location—living on a creek in the middle of the city is a dream because we get to watch the seasons change out the front windows while still having all the amenities of the city close at hand.

Biggest Challenge: It’s not a huge house, and we’re collectors by nature, so it’s often hard to fit all the things we want into the spaces we have available.

What Friends Say: Hopefully they say our place feels like us—fun, stylish, and warm.

Biggest Embarrassment: Getting the living room couch wrong four times.

Proudest DIY: Jess made the headboard in our bedroom. Like The Dude’s rug, it really ties the room together.

Biggest Indulgence: The custom purple leather Eames lounge and ottoman

Best Advice: Don’t try to get everything figured out at once. Collect one perfect thing at a time. That way, eventually you’ll love all your things.

Dream Sources: People in Minneapolis have a secret weapon: the Room & Board Outlet. Beyond that, we’ve had luck at Anthropologie, Target, Jonathan Adler, Hunt & Gather (a vintage store nearby), Martin Patrick3 (an interior design store downtown), and the Blu Dot Outlet. For our photography collection, Weinstein Hammons Gallery, Jackson Fine Art, Morrison Hotel Gallery, Magnum Photos, and 20×200.
