Name: Juan Carlos, Coral, and their dog Apple

Size: 6,6673 square feet
Years lived in: 25 years, owned

In Spain, color is a big part of people’s life. The light is warm, the colors are strong, and the people are friendly and relaxed — and Juan Carlos and Coral’s Valencia home is a perfect example of this vibrant lifestyle. The house itself has bold and colorful features — such as the yellow door at the entry or the ornate tiles at the stairs — but Juan Carlos and Coral keep it simple, proving that a space can make a big statement if you just let it.

The couple’s home has been in Juan Carlos’ family for a very long time. The house was built in typical Valencian fashion, meaning it’s separated into two spaces. On one side is the living space, which is full of bold colors, antiques, and collected family heirlooms. On the other side is Juan Carlos’ work space, where he makes ceramics for his brand Domanises, which he founded a few years ago to preserve his family’s story, just like his home.

Apartment Therapy Survey:

Our Style: A little bit nostalgic, classic, and traditional.

Inspiration: Our inspiration comes from the passion to preserve old things just like they were whenever possible, but if not, we’re always giving it a new face and renovation. We love to integrate traditional ceramics from Manises, our old town.

Favorite Element: The old things from my grandparents. Our favorite thing is the big orange bottle in the bedroom.

Biggest Challenge: Making the workshop compatible with the house, and keeping alive the spirit of Manises — the oldest and most important ceramic neighborhood of Europe.

What Friends Say: They love the light and the super big space.

Biggest Embarrassment: None!

Proudest DIY: All the pieces we create for Domanises.

Biggest Indulgence: The terrace and the patio area. It’s full of birds and nests. We really enjoy relaxing there, as well as having dinner with friends, playing with Apple, and all the tranquility and calm.

Best Advice: It’s very important to enjoy the essence of the old things and give them the praise they deserve.

Dream Sources: None in particular.
