It’s hardly a surprise that after 17 years of globetrotting together, Ali and Evan’s Los Angeles home is filled to the brim with eclectic touches and unique art. The couple, both originally from Oregon, moved to Southern California four years ago seeking sunshine and haven’t looked back.

Their home perfectly mixes whimsy with worldly — each room begging to be explored and admired. Every nook and cranny is decorated with souvenirs and memories, creating a space full of character and charm.

Ali, who works in the food industry as the chef and owner of Little Branch Foods, makes her own artisanal granola and constantly has guests asking if they can stay for breakfast. Evan, who works in the beverage industry, owns a coffee-centric ceramic company called Constellation Supply Inc.

Ali and Evan are the perfect friends to have when it comes to spending relaxing evenings on their recently refurbished patio…and long nights curled up on their mid-century couches hearing stories of far-flung travel.

Our Style: Mid-Century Estate Sale meets Psychedelic Caravan.

Inspiration: Our travels, ritual and ceremony, mythology, cosmology, botanical gardens, time travel, treasure hunts.

Favorite Element: Our outdoor patio. It’s truly become our sanctuary in the city.

Biggest Challenge: No yard and making a rental feel like our home.

What Friends Say: It’s kinda like taking a trip down the rabbit hole — so (too?!) much color, a thousand tales told, late nights turning into early mornings and, “Oh hey, can I stay for breakfast?”

Biggest Embarrassment: Our (my) hoarding and clutter – I’m still learning how to “edit.” We often bring pieces home with us from our travels regardless of practicality, which has left us with closets full of STUFF. But I can look at each piece in this house and tell you exactly its significance. It’s like being able to go back and revisit a special time and place. In the future I’d like to embrace the mantra “less is more.”

Proudest DIY: One day, while out walking 8 ½ months pregnant, I discovered an abandoned (splintering) wooden ladder on the side of the road. Determined, I drug it home, sanded and stained on our front porch in the hot summer sun, and eventually erected it in our daughter’s nursery. A little TLC unearthed a beautiful piece that’s become one of our favorite places to hang extra crib/baby blankets.

Biggest Indulgence: Creating an outdoor oasis felt like a big investment in a rental but living in a house with a toddler, two dogs and no yard felt claustrophobic. Our goal became to create a family friendly escape on a budget, which could double as an outdoor area to entertain guests well into the evening.

Best Advice: Support small artists, designers, craftsmen, and “pickers” whenever you can. Don’t let Instagram and Pinterest fads dictate or overwhelm your flavor. Let your home tell your own personal story.
