Name: Virginie Pichet and roommates Ada Kraszczynski and Mée Reed-Desjardins
Location: Villeray, Montreal
Size: 1,500 square feet
Years lived in: 1 year, renting

Virgine is the editor of a popular lifestyle blog based in Montreal, Le Cahier. Her home reflects her girly, romantic and fearless personality. Passionate about fashion, she even dedicated her bedroom as a walk-in closet!

Virginie usually leans toward second-hand pieces of furniture and old-charm elements when it comes to decoration. She describes her style as being girly and romantic — with an inclination for the color pink. A hue that she decided to carry over from her bedroom to the other rooms of the house.

She chose this apartment specifically for its character and the numerous architectural details. “I love the vintage feel attached to it. Plus, it’s huge. I had to find a place big enough to contain all of my clothes and fashion accessories! This one was perfect,” says Virginie.

Apartment Therapy Survey:

Our Style: Girly and vintage

Inspiration: I spend a lot of time on Apartment Therapy (ha!) and Pinterest (not original at all but it’s true)

Favorite Element: I have many favorite elements like my pineapple lamps, the chandeliers in every room, and the fact that the apartment has a lot of character and history. I love the vintage feel attached to it and the architectural details everywhere.

Biggest Challenge: : The lack of wardrobe in my bedroom (there is one but it is tiny for all the stuff I have!). I own a lot of clothes and accessories so it is a real challenge to keep the room clean-looking when everything is in sight. The double room serves as a bedroom as well as a huge walk-in closet.

What Friends Say: “This is the most beautiful apartment in Montreal” (I’m not the one saying it!) Also, the fact that our bedrooms really reflect our personalities. I’m the girly-romantic one.

Biggest Embarrassment: There is a huge bump on the living room floor. Everyone always trips on it and it makes it difficult to dance when we host parties.

Proudest DIY: Last year I built a kitchen island from old furniture pieces with my dad. Since there was not enough space for it in the kitchen, we repurposed it as a living room decoration/bookcase. And a hang out spot with the two pink stools.

Ada built the shelves in her bedroom. It took two days to make it with the help of her dad.

Biggest Indulgence: Plants and flowers, even if I find it extremely difficult to keep them alive. For Ada is the bedding.

Best Advice: Don’t hesitate to re-purpose furniture and decor elements. Often, a fresh coat of paint or new knobs can totally change the look of a piece of furniture. Everybody is able to do it — it just needs some time and creativity.
