Name: Chrissy Phelan
Location: West Hollywood, California
Size: 1,300 square feet
Years lived in: Renting 7 years

Hair stylist Chrissy Phelan’s knack for styling goes beyond the buzzes and fades she crafts in her small in-home salon. While she’s lived in her West Hollywood house for seven years, a recent self-motivated design overhaul has given the home a fresh feel, complete with a new light-filled salon room and tons of vintage-eclectic character.

Chrissy’s colorful and inviting interior matches her cheery and warm demeanor. A comfy, overstuffed sofa is juxtaposed with a sleek Eames-style lounge chair in the living room. Her eclectic taste and love for vintage is displayed throughout her home in perfectly styled vignettes. Refinished vintage pieces provide charming surfaces on which to prop bohemian and sentimental tchotchkes and photos of loved ones (you may recognize her sister, Liz, from her Santa Clarita house tour!).

Apartment Therapy Survey:

My Style: Vintage with some Mid-Century Flair?!

Inspiration: Everywhere! I like so many different styles. I guess whatever speaks to me.

Favorite Element: The indoor/outdoor feel. I love opening up all my windows and doors.

Biggest Challenge: Renting!! I’m so limited on what I can do. I would love to change some stuff but it’s not mine…

What Friends Say: People always comment on how happy my house feels. I love that.

Proudest DIY: My chalkboard has become a revolving art piece. I love having people draw on it and leaving it up for a bit then changing it out again.

Biggest Indulgence: Maybe my lounge chair in my living room. It’s a replica Eames, but it still wasn’t cheap. I wanted it so bad. One day I will own a real one 🙂

Best Advice: Don’t be scared to mix and match. I love so many different styles and I’ve learned it keeps it fun to mix it up. Don’t stick with one shop or brand.

Dream Sources: Anthropologie, West elm, Restoration Hardware, Schoolhouse Electric

Thanks, Chrissy!
