Marta is a woman who knows what she wants and her Barcelona home is a beautiful blend of all her favorite things. She loves plants, illustrations and natural materials, and you’ll find all of those things and more in the home she’s owned for a year and a half. Each detail has been thoughtfully considered, and that’s precisely why the entire space is a sophisticated and elegant arrangement.
Marta didn’t use a decorator to help; she believes everyone can design their own home by following their own instincts. Patience may also play a part in designing a beautiful home without help — you won’t find any “filler” items in this house. Marta waited until she found the perfect furnishings for each room. They are elements that when combined, look like they were meant to be together all along.
Apartment Therapy Survey:
My style: Clean and cozy. I love natural materials. For me things have to have soul. Nordic and vintage are my favorite styles.
Inspiration: Manchester city; I love the stores, cafes and the “coolness” of the people. Also I can say Instagram and Pinterest.
Favorite Element: I love my dining table. I spent all my savings on it.
Biggest Challenge: The living room arrangement. As I bought everything little by little, I didn’t know what was coming next! And that was a little bit challenging.
What friends say: They love the apartment! They know me and they laugh with every detail but they are always asking me for the brand of things.
Biggest Embarrassment: The thing I like the least in the apartment is the kitchen. I would love to have a different one, but that is how it came. I tried to represent myself with little things but one day I will have the kitchen I really want!
Proudest DIY: I’m really bad with my hands! I took pottery classes but I was so bad that I had to quit! If I have to choose something, it would be the furniture at the entrance. I didn’t do it with my hands but it was totally what I had in mind. A lot of the things the carpenters made were my ideas. Also the lamp above the table was designed by me but installed by my dad.
Biggest Indulgence: The refrigerator. The only one I wanted was the one I had and they had to send it from Italy! I lived for a whole month without a refrigerator just waiting for it!
Best Advice: Choose your own style. Better to go little by little, until you find what you really want. Try to look for original stuff. Social networks are perfect for searching for ideas and finding good advice.
