Millennial pink, rose quartz — whatever you call it, pink is definitely having a moment. One designer in London loves it so much she’s surrounded herself with plenty of shades of pink in the maisonette she shares with her husband in Notting Hill, London.
Violet is a designer at Cabbages and Roses, a vintage-inspired British brand famous for their classic English floral designs, so it’s no surprise her house is “a mix between bohemian, shabby chic and classical English.” Her maisonette is so dreamy (with pink featured throughout the house and lots of flowers and vintage furniture) that I felt transported into a movie set.
In the last few years, millennial pink has been all over interior design, home decor, fashion trends and more, and the color is slowly defying the stereotype that “pink is for girls.” Which made me wonder how her husband Harry feels about it all? “He’s fine about the pink around the house, except the pink microwave. He told me that I’ve gone too far, it’s disgusting!” Violet jokingly tells me (although she only took it home as it was free).
Violet’s a big fan of vintage furniture, the evidence of which is all over the small home. The coffee table was a vintage tool box, the quirky vintage stool that spells “naughty” was a present Violet gave to Harry on Valentine’s day, and Violet’s favorite thing in the house is a set of pastel color swatches from a vintage mill, a wedding present from her mum.
“Pink in the house just makes me feel happy and cosy,” Violet tells me, “but no, I don’t like wearing pink. I like wearing blue and white.” Having said that, Violet showed me a suit that Harry was just getting made, and guess what? It’s pink. Who says pink is only for girls?
Apartment Therapy Survey:
My Style: I would say it’s probably a mix between bohemian, shabby chic and classical English. I love faded florals, vintage fabrics, stripes and wicker. I wish I could be minimalist but I have an uncontrollable need to surround myself with things I love.
Inspiration: The house I grew up in, which was filled with colour and life. My mother is a designer and I get all my inspiration from her.
Favorite Element: Our “Secret Garden,” which has a covered area so we can be outside in the rain.
Biggest Challenge: Storage. I am forever and always in need of more storage.
What Friends Say: Poor Harry (because of the flowers and endless pink).
Biggest Embarrassment: The fact that we don’t have space for a table or chairs so if friends come for supper they have to sit in the garden no matter the weather.
Proudest DIY: Probably the television stand, which is made of an old apple crate and a baking tray. Or our wooden shoe rack.
Biggest Indulgence: Our cordless Dyson hoover, which I am obsessed with.
Best Advice: I would say not to worry about what other people will think; surround yourself with things that make you feel happy and uplifted.
