Name: Cindy Tung
Location: Midcity — Los Angeles, California
Size: 550 square feet
Years lived in: 5 months, renting
Graphic posters with bold text, whimsical crafts in rainbow hues, and an adorable sleepy dog named Marley define Cindy's dreamy LA apartment. Even though she has only lived here for five months, her keen eye and fun nature shine through and make this space feel like a bright, playful home.
Cindy doesn't just live in 550 square feet, she runs her business Marley&Alfie out of her apartment, as well. Her work is known for its bright, peppy colors mixed with soft, earthy hues, and her home follows suit. As a designer and maker of handcrafted fiber art and jewelry, textures play into her home decor, as well. And like her signature piece — wrapped horseshoes — her home is a mix of quirkiness and charm.
Apartment Therapy Survey:
My Style: When Urban Outfitters, Oh Joy, IKEA and Marley&Alfie all go to a party together...I love spaces that are filled with light, colors and textures.
Inspiration: COLOR, travel, Martha Stewart, and bloggers Oh Joy, AwwSam and Studio DIY.
Favorite Element: All the great light the place gets during the day! Surrounded by art and color made by my friends and people I've met through my art.
Biggest Challenge: Downsizing and trying to utilize every part of the space properly and have a good flow. I think I must have moved my bed back and forth about 10 times and my desk in the studio the same amount of times. Originally I had my bedroom nook a lot bigger and then I decided that all I needed that space for was sleep so I gave myself some more space in my studio.
What Friends Say: Not what I expected from the outside of the building and it's very colorful and cute. Very well thought out on the space planning.
Biggest Embarrassment: My small kitchen sink. Literally drives me crazy. So hard to wash my bigger pots and pans.
Proudest DIY: Hmmmm...if I had to say one...My IKEA couch hack…the chaise isn't supposed to be a part of the couch.
Biggest Indulgence: My rug from Babasouk, I love it soooo much!
Best Advice: Move things around and try different setups to see what works best for the space. You won't know until you try it. Surround yourself in color and things that you love.
