You saw a sneak peek of Tanya’s beautiful home in a house call last year, and now you can get a longer look and read more about her home. Tanya writes: We moved from Toronto to Muskoka about four years ago. The city was lovely, but once we had Reid, I craved moving home to my hometown of Muskoka. It’s amazing here with lots of trees, over 300 lakes, and tons of room for a little kiddo to run around.
I’m a massive fan of paint…I will spray paint anything. Soooooo many of the items in our house we bought for next to nothing, spray painted and gave a new life. A running joke is that if it’s left on the side of the road it has my name on it. I have to admit, I’m pretty damn good at finding a deal.
For me I just buy what I love. If you love it, you will find a place for it in your home. And of course, the more colour added the better.
Apartment Therapy Survey:
My Style: Relaxed, bright, eclectic
Inspiration: Every colour of the rainbow inspires me
Favorite Element: My chair in my studio. I bought it so long ago at a second-hand shop. Another man was trying to buy it and I convinced him that I should be the one to take it home. This was one of the first pieces of furniture I ever bought. It was originally a rocking chair, but I’ve since converted it to my desk chair.
Biggest Challenge: $$$$, oh if only I had endless amounts of $$$…lol I’m a firm believer that you do not have to have lots of money to have lots of style, you just need to be patient and always be on the lookout for some fabulous finds.
Proudest DIY: Probably our dining room table. I found the old door on the side of the road when we were living in Toronto. I ran home, got my car and realized the door was too heavy for me to move on my own…I waited for a nice lady to pass by and she helped me load it into the back of my car. Ry encased the door in cedar and built the legs. I scraped the heck out of the door to scrape some paint off and hammered in all the “dents” into the cedar…yup, I had a headache after that.
Biggest Indulgence: Wallpaper…oh how I love wallpaper!!!
Best Advice: Don’t be afraid to try something new, and don’t be afraid to fail…quite a few of my projects have ended up in the trash over the years.
