Name: Steph Waterman
Location: Carroll Gardens — Brooklyn, NY
Size: 600 square feet
Years Lived In: 1.5 years, renting

Kaz and Steph are the "design obsessed duo" behind The Stylephiles. "We are oceans apart in Sydney and New York. Best friends who love to travel, live for good design, and in recent years have harnessed this obsession into a beautiful Instagram account... More recently we've launched a website that offers lovers of travel, design hotels and interiors a hub to delve deeper into The Stylephiles aesthetic."

Steph shares a peek into her small Brooklyn rental apartment in Carroll Gardens, and it's an elegant arrangement of cozy textures and a soft, calming color palette. Everything in her home is intentional and well-crafted, a mix of fun finds from stateside and down under. Lots of light pours in from floor-to-ceiling windows, and a clean, minimal kitchen serves as an unassuming backdrop for Steph's style picks.

Apartment Therapy Survey:

My Style: Contemporary relaxed with a heavy dose of texture.

Inspiration: Too many sources to count all stemming from my Instagram account I share with my best friend and style muse Kaz. I do love a mix: some of my Aussie favorites with some new finds from New York.

Favorite Element: The floor-to-ceiling windows in both the living space and our bedroom.

Biggest Challenge: The light floor boards show all the dust, and living in New York there is lots of dust.

What Friends Say: "It's like a little oasis that always smells of something delicious."

Biggest Embarrassment: Our gorgeous original Zoe Pawlak artworks are still sitting in bad fitting $18 Ikea Frames. Getting these beauties framed has been on my to-do-list for over six months.

Biggest Indulgence: A bed full of linen we brought with us from Sydney. We have two sets that are made of many many colours so they can all be mixed together.

Best Advice: Don't rush into furnishing a new home, take your time to get to know your space and do your research. You would be surprised how many unique finds there are online that are happy to ship worldwide.

Dream Sources: A little shop in the East Village ( Cote A Coast ) that is full of handmade ceramics, African Mali Mud cloth cushions and brass vases. I also love to shop in and around the Chelsea Flowers markets on 28th Street for vases, plants and fresh flowers.
