“My love of French Vintage decor has always been something I loved since I was young, writes Jaime on her website, So Much Better With Age. “I have taken my two loves (vintage items and French decor) and combined them to make it something that is truly me. As a young girl, I always wanted to stop at old museums, find treasures at vintage or thrift shops and redecorate my room.”

My Style: French Vintage—it’s a style I came up with for my love of French/European furniture and antique/vintage items.

Inspiration: I absolutely adore everything French, like curvy furniture and chandeliers, so I made sure to add just that in each room. I renovated this entire ’80s home to bring it up to modern times, but by decorating it with French and vintage items, it made it unique and more classic.

Favorite Element: I love my kitchen island and fireplace, two things I’ve always wanted.

Biggest Challenge: The long layout of the narrow house made it a challenge for design. I also love old homes so this ’80s home was not my first pick. But after putting offers in on three other houses (full price) and still losing out due to bidding wars, I went back to this house and I knew I could make it work.

The kitchen was small and blocked in with walls. Two load-bearing walls were moved (where the kitchen island now is) and the dining room was moved to where the family room was. The living room then became much larger. With such small square footage on the main floor, we no longer needed a living room and a family room so by removing the family room and turning it into the main dining room, we were able to gain more space.

What Friends Say: They absolutely love my home and can’t believe what I’ve done with it. The style here is very West Coast Modern and I’m definitely going against the grain with my French style.

Biggest Embarrassment: Nothing so far 😉

Proudest DIY: The stenciled wall in the powder room. Everyone thinks it’s wallpaper. I also love the mirror I made above the mantel. I also love the floor plan I came up with and the kitchen design.

Biggest Indulgence: The fireplace was a splurge, well the whole renovation was a splurge with removing two load-bearing walls.

Best Advice: Don’t worry about what other people are doing, just make a home you love!
