Name: Chad Palmatier and Anthony Sobotik
Location: North Austin, Texas
Size: 1,850 square feet
Years Lived In: 1.5 years, owned
In their business—Lick Honest Ice Creams—as well as their home, Chad and Anthony focus on bringing an appreciation of simple things into the world. When it comes to decorating their North Austin house, they only brought in items they really love. The kind of items that bring them joy every day. For the couple, that means color, pattern and family heirlooms. Each room contains bold and unique textures that together create a comfortable and inviting home.
Chad is an interior designer and Anthony is a chef, and together they opened Lick Honest Ice Creams in 2011, combining the spirit of the homemade ice cream Chad grew up with in Pennsylvania, mixed with flavors that Anthony grew up around in small town Texas. Their home’s style is also a mix of their style influences.
Apartment Therapy Survey:
Our Style: Comfortable Vintage Modern
Inspiration: ’50s -’70s architecture and furniture, texture and color.
Favorite Element: Grandparents’ 1960s swivel dining chairs that we had reupholstered and refurbished. Every time I sit in them, I smile at the thought of my precious grandparents no longer with us.
Biggest Challenge: Not being able to update the house at the speed we want to.
What Friends Say: The compliment we hear most often is how comfortable and inviting our home is. They love the layout, the laid-back style, the colors, textures and furnishings.
Biggest Embarrassment: Our dated bathrooms that are our next project!
Proudest DIY: Hanging the grass-cloth wall covering in the dining room.
Biggest Indulgence: Arteriors chandelier in dining room
Best Advice: Fill your home with items that make you happy. Don’t mount your TV too high (it should be at eye level when seated), When space permits, don’t push furniture to the corners and walls. Don’t be afraid of color. Seek unique quality items over lots of “stuff.” Use lots of live plants only!
Dream Sources: Amazing estate sales and pretty much anything from Brabbu and partners.
