Designer September Scott is all about the hunt—for treasures, one-of-a-kind finds and absolutely any found object she can reinvigorate. “Almost all the pieces in my space are reclaimed from an estate sale, flea market, Goodwill or on the side of the road. My passion is bringing new life into found objects,” she writes.

September’s home is impressive for more than just her ability to blend a wide variety of styles in one small space; her apartment feels good. There’s a palpable optimism to the way she designs interiors. And she’s recently started sharing her positive outlook in a new way: Her company September Scott Designs launched a new brand (one might even call it a movement) earlier this year called LOVE ALL Y’ALL. “It is an inspiring line of apparel created to share a meaningful message during a challenging time. It’s a simple reminder that we are all in this together — every race, religion, color and creed. Everyone matters, even the trees, birds and the bees.”

My Style: Eclectic mixed with modern and vintage. I am quite the treasure hunter always looking for the next hidden gem. I like to find things that are unique, inspiring and tell a story. My passion is bringing new life into these found objects. Whether it’s creating a lamp from a statement piece, re-purposing a side table or re-upholstering a chair. Designing your space doesn’t have to break the bank. My place is full of special finds from my travels, my favorite antique show in Round Top, Texas, estate sales, flea markets, Goodwill and even a few dumpsters. It’s FUN mixing all the unique pieces together and creating something beautiful.

Inspiration: I have found immense inspiration on my travels around the globe. After my endless trips to Europe I come home dreaming of castle furnishings. I have an obsession with gold leaf, chandeliers and gorgeous tapestries.

Favorite Element: All the BRASS objects. They add much more character to my space.

Biggest Challenge: The problem with renting is the light fixtures are usually mundane. I was determined to get my own fixtures in my apartment. It’s all about lighting.

What Friends Say: My place is full of life and light!

Biggest Embarrassment: Not having space for a dining room table. I like to break out the good China and host a rockin’ dinner party!

Proudest DIY: Creating the gold metallic elephant lamp. This vintage ceramic elephant was once jade green. I thought this big jumbo would make a beautiful lamp. After gold leafing this beauty, I took it to D&W Lighting of Austin. The owner Bruce created a gorgeous Lucite base and a brass figurine mount. It is definitely one-of-a-kind!

Biggest Indulgence: Purchasing the gorgeous mid-century modern credenza from Sweden.

Best Advice: Be your own creator. Don’t be afraid to create your own unique style. For example, mixing and matching modern and vintage pieces adds much more character and personality to your place.

Dream Sources: I look for inspiration in spaces. Grizzelda’s Restaurant, Hotel Saint Cecilia and Weather Up Bar in Austin. Or the Kong Restaurant in Paris, France.
