An All-White Buenos Aires Home Full of Art

Name: Martin Bustamante
Location: Villa Crespo — Buenos Aires, Argentina
Size: 530 square feet (plus patio and terrace)
Years lived in: 7 years, owned

Martin was struggling to find a decent place to buy within his modest budget, as often happens. He thought he had seen every house in the neighborhood until a friend told him about this place. When he finally saw this house, instead of getting scared away by one of the home's very unique features, he got excited: There is a bathtub in the bedroom.

The peculiar remodel was done by the previous owner, who was also brave enough to splash white paint over all the glass tile in the kitchen and bathroom. When Martin moved in he decided to give them a fresh coat of paint, and then was encouraged to go all the way and paint the wooden floors, too.

He ended up with a literal blank canvas to display his favorite pieces of art and furniture. It's an eclectic collection that is constantly moving between his house and his shop Facon, where he sells a selection of goods and art handcrafted across the country.

Apartment Therapy Survey:

My Style: A mix of artisanal items with modern pieces. I like simplicity as a background for personal and meaningful things.

Inspiration: I am inspired by craftsmanship, the manual work put into every piece from artwork to chairs and clothes.

Favorite Element: I love the patio. The fact that it is secluded favors the connection between indoor and outdoor without worrying about privacy.

Biggest Challenge: Accommodating all the functions I needed within the scarce square footage of the house; I think it worked out fine.

What Friends Say: They laugh at the bathtub situation, but once they think about it they get why I love it so much.

Biggest Embarrassment: As I used to travel a lot for work, I wasn't taking good care of the plants. I had to find greenery more suitable for the care I'm able to give them.

Proudest DIY: I bought the Breuer chairs online and restored the chrome using tinfoil and water.

Biggest Indulgence: The projector and rolling screen.

Best Advice: Pay attention to the rooms you use the most and build everything around them. Forget about how things are "supposed" to be; your house needs to be flexible and welcoming to the way you live in it.

Dream Sources: Every workshop hidden in every corner of our country.
