Katie has only recently moved into her cute Queenslander-style home in the country town of Dayboro, a 50-minute drive from Brisbane, Australia. The home was lovingly restored by a local building firm, and Katie’s added her “modern country” style to the space…along with filling the house with three cats and colorful sofas. Moving from the inner suburbs, Katie is thrilled to call this new house “home.”

Katie had a beautiful home where she lived previously, and her style has easily translated into this new space. The home’s showstopper is the bright green sofa that truly makes a modern statement, yet still feels perfect in this old 1920s house. And though Katie and her partner have grand ideas for the garden that haven’t yet come to fruition, there’s plenty of time: They plan to live in their home for many, many years to come.

Apartment Therapy House Tour Survey:

My Style: Eclectic Modern Country

Inspiration: Mid-century modern design, salvaging one-of-a-kind items from garage sales and op shops, bright colours, beautiful textures, nature, the environment and following my heart to things I love!

Favorite Element: The perfect imperfections any 100-year-old home has and the beautiful natural light.

Biggest Challenge: Finding creative storage solutions with no built-in cupboards or wardrobes!

What Friends Say: The house was made for us!

Biggest Embarrassment: I struggle to find a place for things sometimes, and do still have a very full junk drawer in the kitchen!

Proudest DIY: The hanging ladder for my plants over the bathtub. This project took my dad a full day of measuring, re-measuring and measuring again. He did a fantastic job and perfectly executed my big idea.

Biggest Indulgence: A velvet, bright green sofa!

Best Advice: Let your style and home evolve – don’t try to do it all at once.

Dream Sources: Mid-century design and fashion, local Brisbane antique stores, op shops, my grandparents’ style and homes, timeless and vintage pieces, Jardan Furniture, West Elm, any beautiful hand-crafted design.
