Colie and her husband recently made the move from Fargo, North Dakota to Minneapolis. On a recommendation from a friend, they found their new home in the North Loop of Minneapolis, an area that has seen a major housing boom over the past few years. While they looked into old rehabbed warehouse living, they eventually settled on this new one bedroom in a building full of neat amenities. Colie and her husband had to significantly downsize to fit themselves into this 781 square foot space, but they accepted the challenge and, as you can see, succeeded.

Colie seamlessly merges finds of all kinds including vintage thrifted furniture, new IKEA pieces, and more. Having grown up the daughter of an interior decorator, a well-designed, cohesive and comfortable space is important to Colie. Despite having a small space, Colie has filled it well and manages to update and change things without over decorating or cluttering up the apartment. Perhaps Colie and her husband will move on to a larger home soon, but for now Colie appreciates and enjoys her 781 square feet and the small challenges that they bring.

Apartment Therapy Survey:

Our Style: Eclectic. I love the juxtaposition between different styles.

Inspiration: Domino, Lonny, One Kings Lane, Apartment Therapy and Instagram. Pinterest is always a great source, especially when you’re looking for inspiration on a specific idea — for example “open shelf décor” or “bedroom dresser nightstand styling.” But I love flipping through a magazine and Domino has always been my favorite (so glad they brought it back!)

Favorite Element: The floor-to-ceiling windows bring in a lot of natural light. The white kitchen was also a selling factor. I love white kitchens because they just look clean and bright.

Biggest Challenge: Storage.

What Friends Say: “Ooh, this is different since the last time I was here…” I like to change out pictures, pillows, lamps, etc. quite often. Sometimes as soon as I get a space where I want it, I get inspired by something new and want to change it all (insert monkey covering eyes emoji).

Biggest Embarrassment: The walk-in closet. With our minimal storage, we’ve resorted to shoving the overflow in there.

Proudest DIY: The bar cart. It was a simple update to an IKEA piece by adding legs, but it works great in the space and is extra kitchen storage!

Biggest Indulgence: The marble coffee table in our living room — it was a great purchase.

Best Advice: Surround yourself with pieces that make you happy. Each person has their own style that may or may not match yours, but instead of following their style or the latest design trend, decorate with timeless pieces you love.

Dream Sources: One Kings Lane, Anthropologie, Everything in Domino and Lonny magazines.

Thanks, Colie!
