Cheltenham-based interior and event stylist Dee Campling has recently risen to Instagram fame with her fresh, eclectic, and highly accessible approach to interiors and her often wry and funny take on family life. With a long-standing love of plants and the outdoors, she’s created a style that’s all about bringing the outside in and taking the indoors out. Dee’s interiors are filled with greenery of all kinds, like branches suspended or propped up for decoration. And she takes sofas, sheepskins and fairy lights outdoors to create the coziest of exterior spaces.

Dee’s home, which she shares with her husband, three children and cockapoo Ted, is a Victorian villa with all of the high ceilings, original features, and spacious rooms you’d expect to find in a house of its era. The original kitchen has been extended to create a large family room with a breakfast bar, a dining area, a relaxed area with a corner sofa, and doors opening onto the secluded garden. And it’s furnished with all of the elements you see on her Instagram feed: plants galore, rustic baskets, vintage wood, comfy sofas strewn with cosy sheepskins, the softest-looking linen bedding, graphic prints and strings of twinkly lights.

You can follow Dee on Instagram and see her latest work on her website.

Apartment Therapy Survey:

My Style: My style is a fusion of Scandinavian and Boho Eclectic. I like neutral background colours such as white and grey and I love to add texture with natural fibres such as linen, sheepskin, chunky knits and raw wood. I love to mix modern furniture with vintage, high street with high end, and designer with handmade. I also enjoy upcycling and repurposing furniture.

Inspiration: I’m inspired by the Danish chair designers with their clean lines and bringing the outside in. I adore items that have multiple purposes and that can be used inside and outside.

Favorite Element: My favourite element is bringing things from nature indoors – trees, logs, plants, natural fibres and distressed metals all find their way into my house!

Biggest Challenge: The biggest challenge has been making the dark and narrow back end of the house feel in proportion to the light and airy front part of the house. We achieved this by adding a side extension at the back of the house and opening up the kitchen diner so it was all open plan.

What friends say: They like the fact that the back of the house is light and airy all year round. But they think I’m mad bringing logs and trees into the house!

Biggest Embarassment: It was probably my turquoise phase, accessorised with framed orange gingham tea towels! Closely followed by my purple bathroom with giant daisies painted on the wall, circa 1999.

Proudest DIY: I’m a big fan of adding hairpin legs or casters to pallets, crates, and scaffolding planks to make coffee tables, benches, and side tables.

Biggest Indulgence: My limestone floors, which I had instead of an eternity ring.

Best Advice: My best advice is to use whatever the house is already offering you — make the most of a beautiful window, a great view, or a traditional architectural feature before adding anything else.

Dream Sources: My dream sources are Habitat for clean-lined, timeless pieces, Vitra for iconic chairs, Loaf for sofas, eBay for vintage, and Ochre for lighting.
