Bev is a lawyer, but has always been interested in interior design and photography. So when it came time to start searching for an apartment to buy, she wanted a space she could really design and customize. She wanted a renovation project.

“When I bought my place, it had been used as a rental for over ten years and was not in good shape,” Bev shares. “It was a condo with no charm or details and in need of some upgrades. There were stains on the walls and ceiling, the floors were badly damaged, the wood veneer was peeling off the kitchen cabinets, and the bulky AC units were the focal point of each room.”

But, thanks to her great eye for design, Bev looked past the apartment’s surface flaws and was able to see the potential to add her own style and personality to the space. And she’s been photographing every step on her Instagram and website, Room Sauce.

Apartment Therapy Survey:

My Style: Modern minimalism meets traditional

Inspiration: I am a minimalist at heart and love modern furniture and decor. But, I also like vintage pieces and find it inspiring to mix and contrast new and old finds.

Favorite Element: The apartment gets great light. It’s a big reason that I was drawn to it in the first place!

Biggest Challenge: The bulky AC units. They were an eyesore in the apartment when I first bought it, but now the wood covers are one of my favorite elements of each room.

Proudest DIY: My headboard! They are old barn shutters from a thrift store that were repainted and hung on the wall behind the bed.

Biggest Indulgence: Vintage Rugs. I’ve always loved traditional rugs and have two beautiful ones that I bought from my favorite rug dealer, Kelly Love from Broomhill Antique Rugs.

Best Advice: Don’t rush designing your home. As much as I like minimalism, my apartment looked a little stark for the first year because I didn’t buy things simply to fill the space. It took time to figure out what pieces worked in the apartment and I’m glad I was patient when it came to adding furniture and decor.
