If a passer-by looked at this home, all they would see is a house with peeling paint. But don’t we always say that it is what’s on the inside that counts? My husband Jean and I (along with our puppy, Arthur) were on the hunt for a home with character. When my friend said she would be moving out of her 1920s rental property, I quickly pounced and secured the house as our own rental after no one else turned up!

Whilst the home has peeling paint on the outside, some floorboards don’t quite meet the walls, and windows need a good slam to close properly…me and Jean have made a home for the past 12 months in this misshapen house. The home is full of warm colours and wooden tones, balanced by a bounty of house plants.

Apartment Therapy Survey:

Our Style: Boho, mid century, country

Inspiration: A variety of places, but usually we just know if we like something we can make it work.

Favorite Element: The natural light through all our beautiful windows.

Biggest Challenge: That the home is a rental, and has been for a long time, so is in a slight state of disrepair inside and out.

What Friends Say: That our house is so cool! I think?

Biggest Embarrassment: The peeling paint on the outside of our house, and all the weeds in the backyard!

Proudest DIY: Our Mid-Century rocking chair, we bought vintage kilim saddle bags to cover it.

Biggest Indulgence: Linen Bedspread, Kilim Rug from West End Co. and Television

Best Advice: Buy only what you love and think to be useful.

Dream Sources: French Antiques and anything from West Elm.
