Tanya, who runs the popular Instagram account @houseofsixinteriors, has owned this with her husband Carlos for 13 years. The couple shares the large 1906 Craftsman style house with their four kids: Dylan (12), Emerson (10), Beckett (8), and Peyton (5).

This is our living room. The place where we all gather at the end of the day—under blankets and catch up, laugh, watch TV, play games. I love having lots of white and neutral colors in our home but they need to be grounded by some black and rich woods or leather otherwise the rooms will just feel as they are floating. Here the space is really grounded by the vintage rug, leather chair, wooden console, and black lighting. The space feels solid.

This is the view when you walk into our house. The kitchen is front and center. Kids are always crafting or eating at the counter… or running up and down the stairs with their friends!

Our mudroom. The drop zone. It’s not normally this neat! We call it the sports zone. Normally, swim backpacks hang on hooks, lacrosse sticks and tennis rackets lean against the wall. I do keep the pillows and rug here though… always trying to make a space pretty and useful!

Our home has a pretty open floor plan for such an old home—so our dining room is used for everything as well. This is a homework zone, crafting and puzzles are done here, dinner parties, and friends hanging and swinging on the swing! I love creating a home that’s functional for our family but that is also full of unexpected fun. The swing is one of those fun elements!

Emerson’s room has a bohemian feel—with a white base but lots of textures. She’s my free spirit. My mini me. I love watching her grow into an amazing girl and friend… and I think her room reflects her spirit.

Another fun place we all love to relax… you can never go wrong with a hanging chair. It’s cozy and adds visual interest. Plus, it’s a huge hit with all of the kids’ friends! I love the organic feel of this corner—the feather art, magnolia branches from the yard, and the simplicity of the black vase—I think it feels very Nordic and I love it!

Thanks, Tanya!
