Even if you clean up every time you cook, there will always be food bits and residue — think crumbs and grease — that are pesky pros at working their dirty ways into every crevice and cranny in your kitchen, not to mention clinging stubbornly to surfaces. Even if things look clean overall, there are certain spots that are easily forgotten in the day to day. Zero in on these three spots and choose one (or more) to tackle this weekend.

This Weekend’s Assignment: Take steps towards a healthier, cleaner kitchen by tackling three neglected trouble spots.

Clean Your Freezer: While the temps are still cold, it’s a good time to take advantage of nature’s freezer while you deep clean your electric one. Stick everything outside while you get to work, and your ice cream won’t get soupy in the process.

Clean Your Dishwasher: Yes, even the things that clean have to be cleaned themselves once in awhile. Because over time dishwashers collect food debris, soap residue, and inexplicable gunk that needs to be wiped away to ensure your dishes are getting a proper shine.

Wash Your Kitchen Cabinets: Even if you wipe up spills and drips as they happen in real-time, cleaning the grime and grease from months of meal prep takes a little more time and effort.

Remember, as with all of our Weekend Projects, just do what you have the time and energy to do. If you only get a change to sweep, pat yourself on the back anyway. Because it’s cleaner than it was yesterday!
