You just moved your new coffee table into your apartment, and it’s time to settle down and have a drink. Before you place that cold drink directly onto your latest furniture find, it’s time to invest in some stylish coasters. If you happen to have a knack for DIYs compared to purchasing an item, TikTok account @4walls has a budget-friendly option for creating coasters.

According to the video, this is an easy DIY for beginners with no experience and requires a minimal amount of tools. You’ll need Mod Podge, felt pads, a pair of scissors, a sponge brush, and tiles. Home Depot and Lowe’s sell plain white tiles, so you’ll need to have four circular or square ones, depending on the amount of coasters that you want to make. Next, choose whatever funky design you’d like to place onto your coaster.

Step One

Print your design out and apply Mod Podge onto the back of the paper using a sponge brush. While printing out your artwork, don’t forget to size it up to the same measurements as the tile, or make the image slightly smaller than the tile to create a border.

Step Two

Place felt pads onto the back of the tile, one for each corner. This will protect any tabletop from scratches. The last thing you need is a DIY going wrong and creating more mess!

Step Three

Use an alcohol pad to clean the surface of the tile to prepare it for more Mod Podge.

Step Four

Once the artwork has dried, cut it out. Set it to the side, and cover the top of your tile with a thin layer of Mod Podge.

Step Five

Position the image carefully onto the tile, and then apply an even layer of Mod Podge onto the top of artwork. Be sure to gently remove the air bubbles from underneath the paper’s surface with a credit card!

Step six

Allow it to dry completely. Add three more layers of Mod Podge, letting each application dry before adding the next one.

Now that you’ve created your new coasters, you can pat yourself on the back for accomplishing a DIY and you can safely place your drink onto any surface!
