When I was little, I always wished I had room for a vanity in my bedroom, and I still 100 percent get the appeal of this piece of furniture. The idea of setting up a luxe hair and makeup station with drawers devoted to various tools and products makes the organization freak in me very happy.

While I have my own bathroom in my current apartment and therefore don’t struggle too much finding space to store my beauty supplies, vanities are a great option for those sharing a getting ready space with others. After all, spending less time curling hair and applying makeup in front of the bathroom sink is bound to make your housemates happy!

You may traditionally think of vanities as being heavy, wooden pieces of furniture, but that doesn’t have to be the case at all. Just take a look at these creative setups which exude both elegance and practicality.

Light It Up

We love how Caitlin Covington of Southern Curls & Pearls hung string lights on her vanity for an extra dose of glam. A fuzzy stool makes getting ready at the crack of dawn a little more comfy and brings a boutique-like feel to the space. Eight whole drawers provide all the storage one could need!

Sara Parsons transformed her attic bedroom into a stunning retreat. Her gorgeous vanity setup fits into the space perfectly and completely dresses up a small corner nook. The ornate gilded mirror is the star of the show.

Sleek and Simple

Sometimes less is more. Ella Gregory of Coco’s Tea Party constructed a sleek vanity setup using a wall shelf from Ikea. This simplistic setup is completely functional and is beautifully styled. A thin chair or stool would fit under the ledge perfectly.

Take a Seat

Don’t forget to select a cute chair or stool to complete your vanity setup! We love this polka dotted number that Maggie Overby of Maggie Overby Studios thrifted — she explains that it was originally a nesting table, but that it was the perfect height for seating. Maggie actually thrifted her entire vanity set, and painted the pieces one uniform hue to help them blend together. Brilliant.

Rockin’ Rattan

With a bit of midcentury flair and some boho accents, this vanity belonging to Christina of New Darlings is perfectly on-trend. When furniture shopping, don’t be afraid to opt for a desk rather than a traditional vanity — as exemplified here, many pieces can do double duty!

Soft and Serene

Fresh flowers, a favorite candle, and a soft sheepskin rug make this getting ready station feel spa-like and zen. Krystin Lee of Suburban Faux Pas mixed a variety of textures and patterns within this color coordinated space.
