The 2020 IKEA Catalog Is Here—These Are Our Favorite New Products
Remember the excitement when the [Sears/JCPenney/Delia*s/American Girl/insert your favorite childhood catalog of choice here] arrived? For me, that feeling is still alive and well. Last week, I eagerly awaited a certain special delivery, and I was not disappointed. In my mailbox I found an advance copy of the 2020 IKEA catalog, and today I get to share it with all of you.
The catalog theme is Save Our Sleep, and it’s not hard to imagine why they’ve chosen that focus. According to a press release, the global average for hours slept has fallen from eight to a little over six in the last 50 years. And if you need a hand getting more shuteye, there are quite a few smart solutions within the covers.
The 286-page tome features six separate spaces that demonstrate the five core emotional needs of home: belonging, ownership, security, comfort, and privacy, no matter whether you own or rent; live with family, roommates, or solo. IKEA describes them as such:
- Belonging is about feeling part of a group of people who accept you for who you really are and places that reflect you.
- Ownership isn’t just about deeds and mortgages, it’s about having a sense of control over the space and place you live in.
- Security is about feeling safe and grounded, not about the locks on the door.
- Comfort is about feeling content and at ease in your surroundings.
- Privacy is about having control over where and how you can disconnect and reflect.
One space is extra special; called the IKEA Lab Home, the team enlisted the help of designers from five different countries to take the same two bedroom layout and outfit it for a multi-generational family. The results are inspirational.
You can peep the digital version online, and physical copies will be available in August (you can sign up to get yours here). Meanwhile, here’s a peek at some of our favorite new products.
