If you’ve ever shopped around for a media console, you’ll know that they can get very pricey. Luckily, there’s almost always a budget-friendly work-around in the form of a high-end IKEA hack. You might think hacking an entire entertainment center would require some serious DIY skills and plenty of power tools. But according to TikToker Berna (@bernaslife), it doesn’t have to.

How to Hack the IKEA EKET into a Luxe-Looking Media Console

To create her media console, Berna combined four square IKEA EKET cabinets — one with a door and three without — with two taller units, which she laid out horizontally. Once assembled, she simply placed the IKEA pieces flush against her living room wall, creating what would appear to be one single custom media unit at a fraction of the price — just $250 for this entire setup!

Berna’s EKET hack is also hiding one clever little secret that isn’t immediately evident in the video. The tall EKET cabinets each come with a square shaped interior shelf. Instead of using them as shelves, they serve as dividers in Berna’s open units; she simply slides them in to create more compartments to maximize storage potential.

Why Use the IKEA EKET?

Each of the EKET cabinets are just under 14 inches high, meaning your entertainment center will have a low profile, which works perfectly in Berna’s minimalist living room. Luckily, though, the EKET units are also wall mountable, so you can go higher if that works better for your living space. But the low-profile look is very chic, as evidenced by similar-looking, far pricier models, like this luxe credenza from Thuma

With zero tools, I’d say the EKET hack definitely offers more bang for your buck than pricier look-alikes. The best part, though? This IKEA hack is infinitely customizable to your space and your style. With so many colors, finishes, and sizes available, you can add a personal flair to any combination of EKET cabinets. It’s also easy to change out some of the units as your needs might change — and as long as you don’t wall mount the cabinets, this EKET hack is 100% renter-friendly, too.
