November 1st marks the start of Prettypegs’ PrettyHackathon Auction. Why should this interest you? Well, if you’ve been holding onto those less-than-perfect or basic IKEA pieces in hopes of giving them new, exciting life, we’ve just found the ultimate source for makeover ideas and inspiration. From the popular KALLAX to more obscure SOCKER greenhouse, see how 12 Swedish creatives took on the challenge to “extend the life time of their IKEA furniture by adding a personal touch.”

Each designer created custom pieces using a variety of paints, hardware upgrades, and perhaps most noticeable new legs, all courtesy of Prettypegs. The results are nothing short of stunning. See for yourself…

Here, designer Alva Fierro turned the IKEA IVAR into something more dramatic and stately by adding tapered table legs with brass accents and a fresh coat of matte paint.

Pernilla Jansson went for a beautiful greenhouse station featuring two IKEA SOCKERs.

This entryway piece by Linda Hansson & Louise Lemming uses floral wallpaper, as well as leather accents, and a painted knob to transform this IKEA EKET cabinet.

Another piece created by Prettypegs took the BESTÅ cabinet to another level with new legs and a modern blush front.

Perhaps the best part of these projects is that they are currently up for auction – yes, that means you can buy them! Prettypegs has teamed up with Swedish second-hand retailer Myorna to encourage a more sustainable society through the reuse of furniture, and to support the social work efforts taking place in Sweden. So if you choose to bid on one of the pieces, all the proceeds will go to the Salvation Army, in particular, their efforts to put an end to human trafficking.
