This New $10 IKEA Sofa Table Is the Only Thing Your Small Living Room Is Missing

I’m always on the hunt for unique decor and furniture made for small spaces — so naturally, I spend a lot of time shopping at IKEA. I’m so familiar with the brand’s inventory, actually, that spotting something totally new online or in-person tends to stop me in my tracks. 

Today, that “something new” was the KRAMPHULT armrest tray. I wish something like this had existed back in 2022, when I lived in a tiny NYC studio with no room for a side table. I’d have added it to my cart quicker than you can say KRAMPHULT, that’s for sure. 

The KRAMPHULT armrest tray is an adjustable sofa tray that clips onto or over the arm of your couch. It provides a safe little ledge to rest your coffee, book, a lamp, you name it. It’s available in two colorways, a classic crisp white and a gorgeous deep burgundy shade IKEA calls “lilac red.” Being adjustable, it’s meant to work with just about any sofa. It’s also made of metal, meaning it’s easy to clean, stain resistant, and magnetic. But what makes it really special is the perforated board on its side. 

The SKÅDIS pegboard is an iconic organizing superhero. IKEA makes many different SKÅDIS colors and attachments, so you can totally customize it to your needs. The KRAMPHULT features the same SKÅDIS pegboard on the side, so you can add attachments (shown below) to hold pens, the remote, you name it. Gone are the days of losing things in the couch cushions! As a crafter, this is especially exciting to me. I do a lot of knitting and crocheting while watching TV, and having this would come in so handy for keeping my yarn organized and my hooks handy.  

Though I haven’t gotten the chance to see the KRAMPHULT in action IRL just yet, it seems IKEA customers are loving it. Though it’s brand new in the U.S., IKEA released the KRAMPHULT internationally earlier this summer, and shoppers from all over the world have weighed in. “It’s hard to find a white, one-size-fits-all armrest tray,” one review reads, “so I bought it as soon as I found it. It fits perfectly even on my 20cm wide armrests, and it’s incredibly comfortable to use.” Many other reviewers echo the sentiment, and several call for a black colorway, too. So maybe we’ll see that added in the future. 

It’s worth noting that not many reviews refer to the pegboard functionality, though one says the holes are a bit wider than the SKÅDIS, meaning the added accessories aren’t totally stable. If that’s true, hopefully IKEA adjusts it in the future. But either way, I think this is a genius addition to the Swedish superstore’s lineup. It’s everything IKEA does best: perfect for small spaces, multi-functional, affordable, and absolutely adorable, too. I wouldn’t be surprised if the KRAMPHULT becomes a stateside IKEA staple someday soon.
