The much-anticipated collaboration between two Scandinavian design powerhouses, IKEA and Marimekko, is finally available for purchase both online and in stores as of today. The Swedish furniture brand and Finnish company known for its bold prints have created a new line inspired by sauna culture — called the BASTUA collection — that is here to infuse your home with stylish self-care moments.

The term BASTUA is actually an expression for sauna in Småland, the region where IKEA was founded, and it’s also a combination of the Finnish word “sauna” and “bastu,” the Swedish word for sauna. The 26-piece limited edition collection features brand new prints from Marimekko that are exclusive to the line, including a vibrant rhubarb pattern. Rhubarb is known to grow around saunas in Finland, and the graphic print graces everything in the collection from robes to trays to even the iconic FRAKTA bag.

The rhubarb print is sure to be a favorite, if the people behind the collection are any indication. In a recent call with Apartment Therapy, Rebekka Bay, Creative Director at Marimekko, called the rhubarb FRAKTA bag her favorite item, citing how the roomy tote is a constant staple in her everyday life. And Henrik Most, Creative Leader at IKEA, mentioned that the shower curtain brings a spring/summer atmosphere into his bathroom, even in the dead of winter.

The robes, towels, and first-ever sauna bucket are items people would traditionally use when enjoying a sauna, while the other items are encouraged to be used before or after a sauna ritual. Although the collection has roots in sauna culture, you don’t have to have a personal sauna to enjoy it. Bay and Most noted that the items are meant to inspire moments of wellness, nature, and self-care in your everyday life. There’s even a BASTUA candle, that has notes of elderflower, rhubarb, and sweet vanilla. You’ll also find elevated, nature-inspired takes on everyday home essentials, like uniquely-shaped drinking glasses, a modern birch mirror, small-space-friendly wood bench, and more.

The collaboration, first announced in April 2022, will be available while supplies last, with items priced between $4.99 and $89.99. Check out a few editor favorites from the new BASTUA collection below — from home decor to stylish water bottles — which combine Marimekko’s signature graphic prints with IKEA’s sleek, functional designs.

Fun fact, this green and blue wavy tray — inspired by a Finnish landscape — perfectly nestles into the top of the above BASTUA side table. Of course, it’s also perfect as a standalone serving platform, or even fun dresser organizer to stack perfumes and makeup.
