I spend a lot of time on IKEA’s website (occupational hazard). So when something new catches my eye, it’s extra exciting.

You might think of IKEA mostly for affordable furniture, storage solutions, and kitchenware — but their oft-overlooked rug section is home to some serious gems. Their newest (and cutest!) addition? The MARKBLÅMME rug! With this rug’s designer looks and an IKEA price tag, you really can’t go wrong.

What Is the IKEA MARKBLÅMME Rug?

This latest and greatest IKEA piece first drew my attention, thanks to its bold, modern pattern. This is not your average 2020s checkerboard — the alternating check/stripe pattern is super-fresh and timeless, if you ask me. The color palette of rich red-browns paired with pale pinks and a few deep navy accents is bold yet mature, and looks seriously luxe.

The MARKBLÅMME rug measures 5’3″x7’7″, which is a standard IKEA size (close to the standard American 5’x8′ rugs). It’s a low pile, meaning it’s best for higher-traffic areas like living rooms and dining rooms, but it’s still soft underfoot. Adding to its luxurious look, the lighter colors actually have a slightly lower pile, which gives it a layered and textural look that’s right on trend.

Although it’s new to IKEA’s lineup, customers are already loving the MARKBLÅMME rug. One reviewer states, “Fell in love once I [saw] it in store. Only wish it came in a bigger size. Low-profile rug, so minimal shedding.” Another reviewer echoes that sentiment, wishing the rug was available in a larger size, but awarding it five stars nonetheless: “It’s not large enough to look good under a queen bed, but it is beautiful!! Please offer larger sizes at some point!”

Hopefully, IKEA’s design team hears their prayers and expands the MARKBLÅMME size range — but for now, it’s still a great option for smaller spaces.

All in all, ringing in at just under $150, this rug is an awesome addition to IKEA’s lineup. If you’ve ever looked for a cute, soft, 5’ x 8’ rug yourself, you’ll know they’re hard to come by in the under-$200 price range. If I were in the market, I’d certainly snatch this one up — but here’s hoping MARKBLÅMME is either a permanent new fixture in IKEA’s rug collection, or at least the first of many more stylish floor coverings to come.
