On a recent trip to IKEA, I bought three chairs for $6.99. They were all different styles but the same color, and each one looked great with a jacket or purse hanging on it. There was just one catch, though — the FJANTIG chairs are 4 3/4-inch-tall wall hooks, not human-sized chairs. But they delighted me just as much, and sent me on a cheerful journey through IKEA’s wall hook section — an overlooked and incredibly affordable corner of the store

IKEA currently has 34 items on their wall hooks page, ranging from single simple hooks to tiered organizational racks. There are also multiple ways for the hooks to be hung, with options that use screws, strong adhesive backings, suction cups, and over-the-door hardware. All of the hooks seem sturdy — made with a mix of wood, metal, and recycled materials — and many look plain, simple, and utilitarian in design.

But where IKEA really shines is with their whimsical, playful options — including dog butts and boats — that can add fun and functionality to your kids’ rooms or your young-at-heart adult home. (I fall under the latter!) There are also interesting designs that incorporate different size hooks onto one organizational piece, and others with thoughtful pops of color.

I never thought I’d spend so much time thinking about what items can be hung around my house, but I guess IKEA has me on the hook. Check out a handful of my favorites below.

This squiggly, dark gray-green JORDMÅNEN hook looks like it belongs in a design magazine, but will only set you back $2.99 for two! It would even be fun to get a dozen of them and create a wall of hangable storage; if you align them right, they’ll look like one long continuous abstract squiggle.

Aye, aye, cap’n! These little green boat hooks — made of 90% recycled material from fishing nets and ropes — can be mounted in your shower for hanging a loofah or washcloth. In fact, it can hold both, because of two small hooks on the boat as well as a flat surface on the “deck” for something like a lip scrub or travel-sized toiletries.

Made of white metal (aka they could be painted any fun colors and given tiny bricks), these house-shaped hooks can hold lightweight items like spatulas, measuring cups, towels, or pot holders. And at this low price, you could build a whole neighborhood!
