“After spending many years in rented apartments, this is the first space my family and I can truly call our own. We wanted it to feel calm, grounded, and filled with quiet warmth, a place that reflects who we are,” begins homeowner Mr. Gala. “Working with 27MM Collaborative made that possible; they translated our thoughts into a home that feels both modern and deeply personal.”

"After the renovation, our home feels like a reflection of how we want to live: calm, grounded, and full of thoughtful details," writes the homeowner. "The spaces flow effortlessly from one to another, balancing openness with intimacy, and functionality with quiet elegance. Warm earthy tones, natural materials like wood and stone, and tactile textures create a sense of comfort, while sculptural elements and pops of color add personality and joy."

“The building went under redevelopment, and what was supposed to take a few years stretched into 10,” the homeowner continues. “Through those years of uncertainty, this home became something we dreamed about and planned in our minds long before it even existed. So when we finally walked into the bare shell, with light streaming in and a quiet calm in the air, it felt deeply personal, like something we had been manifesting all along.”

The homeowner describes the home as "modern yet timeless, minimalist yet deeply personal, and above all, it’s a space that invites pause, reflection, and connection; a home that feels both lived-in and curated, perfectly ours."

Architects Parth Mehta and Kruti Mehta are the designers behind this project and 27MM Collaborative. While stylized and maybe even a bit high-end-looking, their custom designs are always full of creative, one-of-a-kind ideas that turn plain, unremarkable spaces into homes for the families who inhabit them.

Kruti says that they were very deliberate with the materials palette in the space. "We worked with local craftsmen who understood our sensitivity to texture and tone — soft oak wood, brushed brass, and tactile fabrics that age beautifully with time. The entire process was deliberate, and that’s what gives the home its sense of calm. Nothing here was rushed; it was built layer by layer, with a lot of thought and heart."

That’s just what happened with this 1200-square-foot new-construction apartment in Mumbai the homeowner took possession of in 2024. “Their brief to us was simple yet layered: They wanted a home that reflected who they were, not just what they liked. A space that flowed seamlessly from one function to another, where openness met intimacy, and where design could quietly support the rhythm of daily life,” Kruti writes.

“The home was a bare shell when we first saw it — untouched, raw, and full of potential. There were no pre-existing finishes or partitions, just open space waiting to find its rhythm,” Kruti continues. “In many ways, that blank canvas was liberating; it allowed us to craft every element: the flow, proportions, and material palette, with complete intentionality. From the beginning, we could envision how light would move through the space, how textures would layer, and how each corner could tell its own story.”

"The oldest 'thing' in our home is really the memories we carried with us into the space," admits the homeowner. "Physically, almost everything was newly designed or built, but certain pieces like the handcrafted swing in the living room are inspired by the swings we grew up with, evoking a sense of nostalgia. Every time we sit on it, it reminds us of childhood, family, and the slow, simple joys that we wanted to bring into our home. It’s a small connection to the past in a space that is otherwise entirely new."

While 10 years is a very long time to wait for a home, Mr. Gala says the wait was worth it. “Every inch of the home reflects the life we had imagined — mindful, warm, and effortless. From the carved brass-accented seating in the living room that turns even small routines into graceful gestures, to the sunlit yoga nook that begins our mornings in stillness, every detail feels intentional. The handcrafted swing has become the heart of our evenings — a gentle reminder of our roots and the joy of slowing down,” he writes. “This home isn’t just a space; it’s a chapter that took a decade’s worth of waiting, hoping, and imagining and now that it’s finally ours, it feels like everything found its rhythm.”
