A Cozy Apartment in Istanbul Has a Wonderfully Warm Color Palette
Name: Asli Bahar Gul Ay, my husband, our kitten Kartal, and our house plants
Location: Istanbul, Turkey
Size: 800 square feet
What city is your home in? How does the space itself and the decor reflect the region (if it does)? We live in Istanbul, one of the most eclectic cities in the world. And our decor reflects it. For example, we have a patchwork rug. It is made of old handmade wool rugs. Also my mom gifted us some antiques, and one of them is a pink beautiful gaslight chandelier.
What’s your favorite thing about your home? My favorite thing about my home is that we DIY everything we can in this apartment. My husband puts together every IKEA furniture piece we buy and he also does the electrical stuff, too. We have a swing in our living room, which we drilled in. And the orange accent wall in the living room, which I painted by myself has become my favourite element in the house.
Describe your home’s decor style in 5 words: Earthy, colorful, happy modern, eclectic, cozy.
What’s your least favorite thing about your home? It is the very small bathroom and kitchen.
What’s your best small space trick? Using walls! Walls are great for storage and decoration!!! We have lots of hooks in our bedroom to maximize the storage space. And in the living room, walls are great to show your personality. I put my macrame, mirrors, picture shelves, even plants on walls!
What’s the most recent thing you’ve bought for your home? A black retro chandelier. I bought it online a month ago and it just arrived few days back. My husband hung it over our dining area. I also buy a new plant every now and then 🙂
What’s the one thing that makes your space feel like home? The gallery wall, which has our wedding pictures in black and white. They are in gold frames. Also my brother took those pics. It is very special to us.
We need your help to showcase even more beautiful and diverse homes. We want to see where you live, whether it’s in Alabama or Antarctica. If you’d like to share your home with us for possible publication, fill out this submission form, or share this post with a friend who should submit.
