Jessica Alba Shares Her Top Tips For A Cozy Patio Redesign
Actress Jessica Alba is no stranger to a home makeover or two. Over on her YouTube channel, which currently boasts an impressive 208,000 strong subscriber count, Alba often posts home-focused content, whether that’s a guide to gift-wrapping or a head-to-toe home renovation.
In the latest video as part of her “Honest Makeover” series, Alba took things outside along with her friend, entrepreneur Lizzy Mathis, to tackle a complete design of her Los Angeles home’s patio areas, revamping the spaces to create a chic and cozy hideout. The pair teamed up with Amazon Garden & Outdoor to transform Alba’s outdoor patios into multifunctional use areas that are perfect for dining and lounging.
“So excited about the latest design Makeover my girl @lizzymathis & I did! We updated 2 patio spaces and a side garden! We turned it into the perfect place to chill/hang and created [a] dope outdoor bbq/eating spot,” Alba wrote in an Instagram post promoting the video.
Throughout the video, Alba talked viewers through the redesign process, in addition to showing off her favorite products, and sharing her top tips on how to create the ultimate cozy and comfortable outdoor space.
“One of the key tips for creating a really cozy, kind of boho vibe is definitely using throw pillows and throw blankets,” Alba explains. To achieve the look, Alba filled her corner sofa with plenty of the BOYSOM Boho Tufted Throw Pillows ($22.99 for two), along with PHF’s Acrylic Throw Blanket that’s sure to keep the evening chill at bay.
Another one of Alba’s top tips when it comes to a patio makeover is to stick to a set color palette. Alba stuck to cream, ivory, gray, and black hues for her patio, as well as adding in the odd pop of color with yellow-hued pieces.
“Sticking to a color palette is key,” says Alba. “Pick four or five colors and just repeat them; in your rugs, in your throws, in your pottery, and all of your accent pieces. That will really make your space look cohesive. If you just stick to your color palette, you really can’t go wrong.”
Alba also suggests mixing things up by incorporating plenty of texture and pattern to the space — while the color palette keeps things uniform, switching up your accessories will add a playful touch.
The patio also features a variety of faux plants and trees, creating a lush green oasis. No garden space? No problem.
Finally, Alba completes her patio with ambient string lights, the ultimate finishing touch to take the cozy scale up a notch.
“I was told that if we put the lights around the railing it’s very “college”,” Alba joked, “But if you zig-zag them on a pergola, or what have you, it looks more adult. Who knew? There’s a tip.”
