Brittney Morgan and her wife, Sara, had both lived in New York City for years. But Nashville, Tennessee, started to become a possibility for the couple’s next home destination. Sara is from Nashville and has family there, and Brittney says she fell in love with the city on her first visit. The couple actually had their wedding in Nashville.

A corner of the couple's bedroom. The Walker checkered rug is from Wayfair and the Floria chair is from Urban Outfitters (but the color has been discontinued). The Manchester Turntable Stand is from Crosley.

“We knew we wanted to make the move once it made sense, and when it was time, we had less than a week to visit and tour apartments before we had to make a decision,” Brittney begins. “Sara had actually lived at our apartment complex for a bit years prior, and it fit everything on our checklist in terms of space, budget, pet friendliness, and amenities, so it was the first place on our schedule. After touring — and sleeping on it — we canceled all our other viewings and just went for it.”

The adorable disco ball cherries are from Tiny Deer Studio. The adorable kitties are Disco and Pickle.

The couple has now lived in this 1,100-square-foot, two-bedroom rental apartment for a year, and though Brittney explains that every room was basically a plain white box without personality, she says that emptiness has been a “good blank space for us to create our new home in. …”

Their very favorite DIY project is the headboard in their bedroom. "We bought a wooden bed frame and the headboard ended up feeling just a bit too short for the scale of the room and everything else around it once we put the mattress on it," Brittney explains.

Unfortunately, personalizing the space was not going to include painting the walls, since painting isn’t allowed in the rental. But that limitation was no match for Brittney, who is a writer-editor turned interior designer and owns her own business, Brittney Quinn Interiors. (If her name sounds familiar, she actually used to be assistant lifestyle editor here at Apartment Therapy!) Brittney says they added color “with our furniture, art, and decor, a lot of which came with us from New York. Everything new we bought was carefully picked out (or DIYed) to create the cozy, eclectic vibe we wanted and to represent both of our interests and personalities.”
