A Sunny Philadelphia Rental Is the Perfect Mix of Pastels and Natural Textures

Tell us a little (or a lot) about your home and the people who live there: I really wanted my space to feel bright but cozy. I am really drawn to modern bohemian styles with some mid-century modern pieces. I absolutely love using patterns (give me a printed Moroccan rug, and I’m a happy girl), different textures, and earthy colors (with some pastels, too!). I always find myself trying to create a very laid-back, natural vibe by including elements like jute, rattan, and cane, while keeping it modern with velvet and marble accents. I love how boho decor allows you do do your own thing and just have fun with it.
The pandemic has truly made me realize how important it is to feel inspired by your space. A few months into quarantine, I found myself redesigning my space one day at a time. Because I was spending so much time home (like we all are) as a full-time blogger and content creator, I wanted to be in a space that made me feel inspired and happy. Even changing up small things like end tables, comforters, etc., can really help you to love the space you’re in! Because this apartment is so modern, it did change the way that I decorate a bit! While I absolutely love the modern finishes, I wanted to make sure that the apartment felt home-y, so I brought in lots of natural elements and textures like plants, dried florals, light wood textures, etc.
My style is really bohemian with loads of color. This is absolutely represented in my home through natural textures, tons of pastel tones, etc. My space feels really happy, which I think really represents my personality. I also am plant-based, which is something that’s really important to me, so I have lots of live plants all over! Even though I am in an apartment building, I wanted my space to feel earthy and full of life.
Describe your home’s style in 5 words or less: Cozy, bohemian, modern, warm, earthy
What is your favorite room and why? My favorite room is my living room. I love how comfortable yet cheery it is. Every time someone walks in, they comment how happy the decor makes them feel. I love how the big windows allow light to shine through and really make the pastel tones pop.
What’s the last thing you bought (or found!) for your home? The last piece I bought for my home was a big 7-foot floor mirror. I know it sounds excessive, but I’ve always wanted one! I have it sitting in my dining area, and I absolutely love how it opens up the space making it feel so much bigger. It also adds a really fun focal point when people walk in.
Any advice for creating a home you love? Especially for moving (and decorating) during the pandemic, I have a few tips that worked for me:
- Make your space a place that inspires you, since we’re all spending so much time at home
- Approach it by redesigning one day at a time
- Even changing up small things like end tables and comforters can really help transform your space and how you feel about it
