This Playhouse for Kourtney Kardashian’s Kids Is So Chic, Architectural Digest Toured It
If you’re imagining the pile of 2x4s and rusty nails your dad built you back in 90s, think again. Kourtney Kardashian and her ex, Scott Disick, custom designed a playhouse for their three children in Kardashian’s backyard, and this luxe escape is so stunning it could take the cover of Luxury Tiny Homes Magazine. (Which isn’t a thing, but it could be.)
Kardashian gave Architectural Digest a look inside the playhouse, which may or may not be nicer than your apartment.
“Scott was like ‘I’m taking this into my own two hands and I’m building the kids a playhouse,” Kardashian told the camera of the endeavor, which appears on Disick’s E! show “Flip It Like Disick.” The modern-style playhouse, which is tucked behind Kardashian’s Calabasas home, was specifically chosen to pair with her Italian-style house.
“We picked the one we liked the best, and we thought would complement my house the best,” said Kardashian. “We even let the kids chime in a bit, and give some of their opinions about some of the details.”
The playhouse features the same wood as Kardashian’s outdoor pergolas, as well as the same wood floors as inside her home. An oversized side window allows the kids to lounge on the couch or the floor while gazing outside, and the front doors open out to a little deck entry area.
Disick and Kardashian skipped a decorator for the space, instead choosing everything from vintage stools to pieces from their own childhoods, like Kardashian’s own original rocking horse. The sitting area features a white couch (a bold move in a children’s playhouse!) that Kourtney’s sister Kim had custom-made. Kardashian also may have come out as an adult Disney fan in the story, showing off two oversized leather plush Mickey and Minnie dolls that were actually gifts from her assistant. The walls are adorned with a mix of daughter Penelope’s art, as well as professional work.
“I would love for all of them to hang out here together,” Kardashian says of her children, who aren’t allowed to bring technology into the playhouse with them. “The kids wanted a TV and we were like, ‘No.’ There are books in there, and it’s cute for playing games. The biggest thing is to use your imagination and have time to relax. It’s a place to lounge and read books and play.”
If you climb the ladder to the lofted nook, you’ll find a cozy area filled with pillows and stuffed animals. It’s so comfortable, Kardashian herself says she may want to use it as her own hideaway.
“I think I’m going to come in and escape in here,” she said. And who could blame her?
