Name: Lacy Reed-Cox and Ed Reed
Location: Austin, Texas

We (me, my husband, and our loud cat Simone) live in a one-bedroom, 700 square foot apartment in Austin, Texas. We like the cleanness of modern and mid-century modern lines, so the furniture we own is almost all modern, but to make it homier, we’ve layered on whimsical/bohemian stuff using textiles, rugs, and art. So 80% modern, 20% quirky, maybe, is the best way to describe it?

When we first moved in, we kept everything super-simple, in shades of gray and brown and white, but with the gray walls and beige carpet that came with this apartment (we rent), we found we needed some pops of color and pattern to keep it happy-feeling.

Fun things we have around the house — several reading nooks, a sweet Danish mid-century buffet that doubles as a mantel (our wedding vase and marriage license are displayed on top of it), some weird collected/thrifted vases for my weekly floral arrangements. I also keep a small organic herb & flower garden on our balcony; when the weather is nice at night, we turn on the Christmas lights and hang out there among the plants.

My mother is a fiber artist and made a bunch of the stuff in our house, including a few tapestries and a huge, chartreuse, knitted pouf. I painted that big painting with the guy holding the fish that’s behind our sofa. Behind our bed is an old map from a school — it still has the USSR on it — that we framed. You can also see — we are kinda obsessed with lamps. Task lamp, table lamps, floor lamps — we have lots!

Thanks, Lacy Reed-Cox!
